The company traces its roots back to 1973 when Alan Torevell established Torevell Mahon, one of the first independent financial advisory firms in Manchester. The business grew and became Torevell Mahon Granville in the 1980s with offices in Manchester, Leeds and London.
In 1997 Alan retired from the company but decided he wasn’t ready to stop working and set up a new business, Dewhurst Torevell, with a focus on providing independent financial planning and wealth management.
Martyn Torevell joined the business at that time after nearly a decade working for Arthur Andersen. Amanda Valentine joined from KPMG in 1999 and Emma Holden was recruited as the firm’s first paraplanner manager in 2000. Over the last 20 years the company has built up an excellent reputation by putting service and long-term client relationships at its very heart and in doing so has become one of the North of England’s major financial advisory firms.
The firm provides active independent advice to a select but substantial number of high net worth individuals and charitable trusts across England and Wales. In 2017 we manage over £550 million on behalf of these private clients.
We believe that our success can be attributed to a number of key things: trust, integrity, discretion, reputation and performance.
Underpinning all of this is an outstanding team of individuals based in our central Manchester Head Office. The team comprises three client facing Financial Advisers supported by a growing team of paraplanners and experienced administrative support staff. We conduct our own investment research based on a long standing programme of in-house analysis and fund manager meetings. This requires a great deal of commitment and hard work and we are proud of our investment track record.
Whilst we have clients throughout the United Kingdom, we have always built on our strong local links in the North of England and we support many local centres of excellence. We encourage our staff to invest some of their time to support these causes. Currently our directors and senior staff sit on the boards of several major local charities including Chetham’s School of Music, the Royal Exchange Theatre, Bolton School and Manchester Boys and Girls Club.
Organisations that we have worked with and supported in recent times include
- Chetham’s School of Music
- Lancashire County Cricket Club
- Manchester Art Gallery
- Royal Exchange Theatre, Manchester
- North West Business Leadership Team
